School Portrait

Overview of the organisation

Our school is a highly differentiated vocational school offering a great many educational opportunities, i.e. eleven courses of education in eleven vocational fields with a variety of career-oriented subjects and attended by about 2,500 students. Our 180 teachers, in their early forties on average, are highly motivated and committed, and teamwork ranks high in a positive working atmosphere. We have been responding to the shortage of apprenticeship training positions in our region by offering a wide range of full-time vocational courses of education. By now, two thirds of our staff are teaching full-time courses.

Our motto: "To us, school is more than instruction“

We aim to create a safe, physically comfortable, ecologically oriented, supportive environment in which students are encouraged to be committed, independent learners and to achieve their full potential in all aspects of the education and life skills. We are active on behalf of students who are socially disadvantaged or from a migrational background. For us, active participation is part of the education process. Among our aims is a positive working atmosphere in which both teachers and students feel at ease so that students can develop their own interests and expand their scope of action to prepare themselves for lifelong learning. We promote intercultural learning processes, enabling young people to find their own identities and to become tolerant towards new cultures.

Certified European School

As a Certified European School, “Learning for Europe” is a highly responsible task for us. Our European profile ensures an education ranging at the European level. Learning skills are practiced in context with curricular objectives and with respect to student abilities and challenges. We believe in work done in projects and on teams and in the competent use of modern media. For us, intercultural education and the incorporation of a European dimension into our lessons are the cornerstones of a tolerant society of the future. We strongly promote the creation and development of partnerships with schools from other European countries and the organisation of education-oriented exchange programmes. Students are encouraged to go on work placements abroad or to take part in multilingual projects. We create open spaces where students are confronted with aspects of different ethnicities, language diversity, scientific and vocational knowledge and social learning to promote the development of intercultural competencies.
